Settlement name

Staro-Yugino.

Geographical Location:

Lower Vasyugan river area, 40 km before the confluence with Ob and major local settlement Kargasok.

Population:

Approx. 1200

Population ethnicity:

Majority non-native population, minority Vasyugan Khanty & Vasyugan Selkup (southern Samoyed) less 2%.

Local/Historical Context:

Formerly a traditional Eastern Khanty settlement, enlarged in 1930’s within the forced migration (exile) and collectivization policies. Major local agriculture and timber production in 1950-1980’s. Since 1990’s in gradual decline. Maintained by association with a nearby larger population center.
