Endangered Languages and Language Documentation

Siberia

DoBeS: the Volkswagen Foundation program to document languages that are potentially in danger of becoming extinct within a few years time.

HRELP: The Hans Rausing Endangered Languages Project at SOAS, University of London, supports research, training, and archiving for endangered languages throughout the world.

Society for Endangered Languages: contributes to further the use, preservation, and documentation of endangered languages and dialects: projects on endangered languages; field work and documentation; support measures; international cooperation between researchers; information on endangered languages.

The Endangered Language Fund : scientific study of endangered languages, support of native efforts in maintaining endangered languages, dissemination of information to native communities and scholarly world.

Terralingua International, nonprofit organization concerned about the future of the world's cultural and biological diversity. Within this broad focus there are two main aims: preserving the world's linguistic diversity, and investigating connections between biological and cultural diversity.

Association for Linguistic Typology (ALT) Non profit-making organization primarily engaged in typological linguistics research. Endangered languages are also relevant to this field.

Living Tongues: a non-profit organization dedicated to the documentation, revitalization, and maintenance of endangered languages globally through linguist-aided, community driven multi-media projects.

International Clearing House for Endangered Languages (ICHEL) Information on current state of maintenance, documentation, degree of endangerment and all other relevant information on the world's endangered languages.

The Society for the Study of the Indigenous Languages of the Americas (SSILA) Promotes research into indigenous languages in North, Central and South America.

The Foundation for Endangered Languages Acts to raise awareness of endangered languages; support the use of endangered languages; monitor linguistic policies and practices, influence the appropriate authorities; support the documentation of endangered languages; offering financial assistance, training, or facilities for the publication of results; collect information on preservation of endangered languages; disseminate information on the above.

Universal Survey of Languages Collaborative Project with the aim of creating a major reference work- a general survey of the world's languages.

UNESCO run project Linguapax  promotion of culture of peace through multilingual education and respect for linguistic diversity. Aims to publish, in 2001, a World Languages Report: complete register of the languages of the world, diagnose and explain the current situation, analyze prospective sociolinguistic trends in different geographical areas.

The Linguasphere Observatory Research network devoted to the classification of the world's languages and dialects, the study and promotion of multilingualism, and the exploration of the global linguistic environment.

The European Bureau for Lesser Used Languages Conservation and promotion of the lesser-used native languages of the European Union and cultures.
