Ms. Marta Colburn, Mercy Corps Jordan Country Director, has 25 years of experience working in the Middle East. Her background in development and academia has focused primarily on Yemen, but she has traveled or worked in many countries in the region. Her career has spanned a variety of areas including democratization, governance, education, agriculture, health, gender, NGO management and resource development for non-profit organizations. Additional areas of expertise include capacity building and strategic planning supporting governance in NGOs, particularly in their interactions with local government entities.
In 1999 Ms. Colburn founded her own consulting firm and successfully served her clientele for 2 1/2 years including the World Bank, the US government, various international NGOs, a number of local organizations and various branches of the Yemeni government. Before arriving in Amman in August 2003 as Mercy Corps' Jordan Country Director she served for nearly two years with the organization in a variety of capacities, most recently as the Director of Global Education. Ms. Colburn's publications included books and articles in democratization, development, gender and extensive curricular resources on a wide range of topics for pre-collegiate education on the Middle East.
