THE PROJECT

The project is study of the media and ethno-sectarian discourse in Iraq. It will study the development of the Iraqi media since the 2003 Iraq War, analyze how various Kurdish, Sunni Arab and Shia Arab political factions have developed their own media networks, and how they portray and report on ethno-sectarian differences.

BIO

He completed his Dphil at University of Oxford, completing a thesis on the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. Al-Marashi received a MA in Arab Studies at Georgetown in 1997. He has BAs in History and Near Eastern Studies from the University of California Los Angeles. He is an Iraqi-American who lived at various times in Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Egypt and Morocco.
