1.DEVELOPMENT OF RESEARCH FRAMEWORK
1.1.Consultative meetings with individuals and organizations interested in mental disability advocacy and development of social inclusion policy in Latvia; Identification of journalists and editors interested in the project.
1.2.Conducting literature review.




1.1.Established contacts with individuals and organizations interested in mental disability advocacy and development of social inclusion policy.



1.2.Literature review on:
a)Legal and real situation of people with mental disabilities in Latvia, other Central Eastern European and European countries.
b)Advantages, disadvantages and results of measures taken in these countries related to mass media representation of people with mental disabilities.
c)Identified and developed research methods and instruments for research.












2.DATA COLLECTION:
Field research:
2.1.Mass media representations of people with mental disabilities- content analysis;

2.2.Audience perception study- focus groups

Interim report:  how mass media representations in Latvia shape peoples’ attitudes towards people with mental disabilities, what mass media communication aims should be set













3.PARICIPATORY RESEARCH – discussion and brainstorming sessions.

Developed strategies for mass media communication













4. TESTING MASS MEDIA COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES- focus groups

Evaluated effectiveness of each strategy evaluated and possible unintended negative consequences identified.













5.ANALYSIS AND  DISSEMINATION:
Finalization of the research report and recommendations, discussion of the draft recommendations with selected editors and   NGO's.
Final presentation and evaluation of the project results

    


Guidelines for mental disability advocates (NGO's, patients, professionals etc.) for proactive and retroactive activities regarding mass media representations of people with mental disabilities

     Press conference for mass media.  Guidelines for journalism students and professional organizations for mass media representatives.
