Fellow project
2006 - 2007:
"State capture" as a key cause of misgovernance and corruption: The case of Serbia
The objectives of the project are to reveal structural and legal mechanisms used by political parties to 'capture' distribution and occupy positions in public institutions (namely favorable positions for 'political cronies' in public enterprises, utilities, local and city governments and mix party and state functions); survey public opinion and attitudes on public office recruitment practices and perceptions of the role of parties in state corruption; and write a policy study and research paper for the presidents of the five largest political parties, President of Serbia, President of the Serbian People's Assembly (National Parliament), mayors of the larger cities in Serbia, Standing Conference of Cities and Municipalities (a non-governmental organization), Center for the Development of the Non-Profit Sector (an independent organization distributing information to other NGOs), and the larger local and national NGOs.
