2006 - 2007:
Migrant workers in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council: Enhancing rights protection
The objectives of the project are to examine the existing legal and policy framework for the protection of the rights of migrant workers in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council with a specific focus on Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates; analyze recent developments regarding this framework, propose how it can be elaborated to improve respect for human rights; and write policy study and research paper for the UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants, the International Organization for Migration and particularly its Kuwait office, UNDP's office in the United Arab Emirates, the UN Committee on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, relevant law and policy makers, government officials in both the GCC states and countries of origin, civil society actors and academics.
