2003 - 2004: Islam in the Russian and Tatar mass media: Devising media policies promoting interconfessional tolerance
The objectives of the project are to examine the influence of the Russian and Tatarstan mass media on interconfessional tolerance; organize the seminar "Islam and the Mass Media: Perspectives and Interconnections"; prepare course material on the role of mass media in building interconfessional tolerance to be included into sociology courses for social workers at Kazan State Medical University and offer suggestions for similar course modifications in university courses for sociologists and journalists at Kazan State University; and write a research and policy paper for the Religious Affair Council of Tatarstan, Moslem Church Authority of Russia and Tatarstan, the Ministry of Mass Media, and information agencies of Tatarstan.
