2006 - 2007: Open society challenges in Tatarstan
The objectives of the project are to examine the power structures of Islamic actors in Tatarstan and their efforts within a context of modernization; explore the relationship between religion and Tatar nationalism and/or ethnic and national identity in Tatarstan; and write policy study and research paper forecasting likely scenarios for future development and recommending various policy options for the Kazan Institute of Federalism and the Program on New Approaches to Russian Security at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
