2003 - 2004: Religious education in public schools: The role of the state in the promotion of tolerance and understanding
The objectives of the project are to investigate the educational content and practices of religious instruction in public schools in Serbia; determine instruments and methods which could improve the Ministry of Education's implementation of such instruction; analyze the applicability of positive examples from other countries; develop recommendations for regional policymakers and relevant international organizations for the positioning and possible integration of religious instruction within existing educational structures while enhancing its role in the formation of a democratic and tolerant society; and write a research and policy paper for the Ministry of Education in Serbia, the Commission for the Implementation of the Religious Instruction, religious communities, educational experts, and educational international and local NGOs.
