The project objective is writing and publishing a textbook on international commercial arbitration for Russian law schools that would contain a systematic explanation of arbitration theory in relation to the practices of the world arbitration centers such as the Court of International Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce, the American Arbitration Association, London Court of International Arbitration, the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce as well as the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Chamber of Commerce of the Russian Federation.

The textbook will include many important judicial and arbitral decisions which have never been translated to Russian before or are difficult to obtain. They will help the readers to understand how international commercial arbitration is developing. The case law study is new for Russian law schools but provides great opportunities for exploring the world of international commercial arbitration.

Contents of the textbook will include chapters on the following: Processes of Dispute Resolution in International Transactions, the Legal Framework of the International Commercial Arbitration, Survey of the Major Arbitration Institutions, Drafting an Arbitration Clause, Selecting the Arbitral Tribunal, Authority of the Arbitral Tribunal, the Arbitration Procedure (with three subchapters: Initiation of Arbitration, Evidence, and the Trial), Arbitration Award, Control Mechanisms, and Enforcement of the Arbitral Award.

The textbook can be used effectively by law students as well as practitioners in Russia and the neighboring CIS states. So far, publication is planned in Russia and in Kazakhstan during the year 2000.
