International Policy Fellows Seminar

 

Survey among journalists, representatives of NGOs and medical institutions, involved in anti-smoking advocacy or able to be engaged in this activity.

Establishment of contacts with individuals and organizations interested in anti-smoking advocacy and development of an effective tobacco control policy. Evaluation of the knowledge about tobacco related problems to design and distribute the necessary informational materials in the course of the research.

Announcement of the 4th republican contest of drawings and essays for youth “Let’s grow up without tobacco”.

April

Analysis of the Law on tobacco and tobacco products adopted on July, 2001 and amendments to the law of September 2002 to trace their effects on fighting the epidemics of tobacco smoking in the country. Study of the amendments to the law suggested by the Ministry of Health and rejected by the Parliament and documents related to the discussion of these events. Analysis of the Program of tobacco industry development adopted on Fall 2002.

Materials for the chapter “Moldovan legislation on tobacco control: yesterday, today and tomorrow” available.

 

Development of the set of informational materials about Moldovan  legislation on tobacco and  FCTC

Press kit available.

Organization of a meeting of journalists, representatives of  youth and women’s NGOs, medical specialists (in collaboration with

“Youth for the Right to Live” - “Tinerii pentru dreptul la viata”).

Provision of the mentioned target groups with the information about the Moldovan legislation on tobacco and FCTC.

Organization of a subject meeting of journalists, representatives of youth and women’s NGOs, the Ministry of culture, Department of Youth, Sport and Coordination Radio and TV Council “Tobacco Free Film. Tobacco Free Fashion. Action!”

 

Provision of the indicated target groups with the information regarding the results of the conducted polls, discussion of the possible joint actions. Organisation of 8-10 articles about the upcoming WNTD in the republican press.

Evaluation of the results of the 4th republican contest “Let’s grow without tobacco”.

 

TV program about the contest; publication of the album of drawings and essays of the winners.

Coverage of the final stage of the discussions on FCTC.

 

Participation in 1-2 broadcasts; organisation of 1-2 articles in the republican press; press release issued in collaboration with the press secretary of the Ministry of Health.

June

Organization of polls among different groups of the population about the attitude to tobacco bill boards and smoking in public places (in collaboration with youth and women’s NGOs) – 100-150 persons.

 

Preparation of the review of the participation of foreign NGOs in the development and advocacy of FCTC.

 

Materials for the bulletin “Tobacco Kills. Don’t Be Duped” (preliminary title) dedicated to the subject “People’s voice – a basis for better tobacco control” available.

Materials for the chapter “Moldova’s public opinion on tobacco and governmental policy on tobacco control” available.

Completion of the chapters “Moldovan legislation on tobacco control: yesterday, today and tomorrow” and Moldova’s public opinion on tobacco and governmental policy on tobacco control”.

Preparation of the review of international experience of publishing health danger warning messages în tobacco packages.

2-3 articles available (the articles will be posted at the website, published in the second edition of the bulletin, and most likely, in one of the republican newspapers).

 

Preparation of a set of informational materials about educational campaigns of tobacco companies, their use of show business and hospitality industry to block smoke free measures and protect their own profits.
