Activity report of OSI IPF Nana Sumbadze

August 1, 2002 - November 1, 2003

 

Project: Preparation of the program for opening the centre for social partnership

 

 

 

 

During the reported period I was engaged in the  collection of materials and preparation of the concept of the centre for social partnership. My activities entailed reviews of publications, collection of materials, consultations, taking interviews, participation in conferences, publications, writing reseacrh paper and the outline of the center for social partnership:

 

1.Review of publications

I reviewed  publications concerning cultural integration as well as the publications concerning values proclaimed by Moslem religeon.

 

2.Collection of materials

A comprehensive list of  publications of Georgian writers published in Turkey and Azerbaijan was made. A list of Georgian films on videotapes translated into Russian was made and videotapes were purchased.

I also collected materials on Samtskhe-Javakheti region.

 

 

3. Consultations:

I had consultations in Ministry of Accomodation and Refugees of Georgia, IOM in Tbilisi.

 

4.Interviews:

I  conducted a number of in-depth interviews with repatriated Meskhetians in Tbilisi and Akhaltsikhe and IDPs from Abkhazia and Oseti, with Moslem Meskhetian living in Turkey and experts on Meskhetian issues in METU, Turkey. The population in the border zone in Georgia and Turkey,  were interviewed, as well as Moslem Meskhetians living in Saatli and Sabirabad regions of Azerbaijan.

 

5.Preparation of research paper. I prepared research paper on the situation in Samtskhe-Javakheti region of Georgia for defining the needs for social integration of local population, revealing the fears associated with the return of Moslem Meskhetians in the region. The issues were studued for effectively dealing with them by the  Centere for Social Partnership.

 

6.Participation in conferences:

During the reported period I participated in the following conferences.

 

·        The role of non-farming  economic activities in Georgia” presented at  the conference “The rural non-farm economy and livelihood diversification in

Armenia and Georgia” in Yerevan in April, 2003.

 

·        “Impact of economic changes on family life in Georgia”. Paper presented at 8th European congress of psychology in Vienna, 6-11 July, 2003
