INTRODUCTORY QUESTION:
According to your professional experience, what are the typical difficulties
of minority children at elementary school level?
BASIC QUESTIONS:
-
What is the relative importance for the problems of minority children at
school of: ethnicity; religion; living in rural or urban conditions?
-
How does the insufficiency of experience of communication in an environment,
different from the home one, influence the relationships among the children;
with the teacher; with the school as an institution, and also the understanding
of the teaching matter.
-
Do you think that the problems of minority children at school are conditioned
by cultural differences in:
-
The attitude to the teacher (with trust, with fear, with respect, with
interest)
-
The attitude to school (as a oplaced of one’s own, or as an alien place)
-
The relationships with the schoolmates (individualism – collectivism; “us”
– “them”)
-
The attitude to the social environment (as it can be identified by the
teacher through the work of the children in the different subjects)
-
The attitude to the teaching matter (why is it necessary to study these
things, what do the children need this knowledge and these skills for).
-
How do you cope with the communication difficulties of the children?
Do you have your personal methods of working with minority children?
What is, in your opinion, the most adequate approach to their problems?
