Mass Media and Mental Disability

Abstract:

    The aim of the project is to explore how mass media in Latvia can be used in order to increase public awareness of the rights of people with mental disabilities and the need to promote policies orientated to the full integration of these people into society.
    Firstly, the project will explore how people with mental disability in Latvia are represented in mass media in Latvia. Secondly, the objectives for mass communication, media and audiences that should be targeted by mental disability advocacy institutions in Latvia will be specified. Then collaboration between mental disability advocacy institutions and mass media representatives will be initiated .
    Finally, guidelines and resource book for  mental disability advocacy NGO's, journalists and editors will be prepared.
