Present and future challenges in Lithuanian mental health policy

March 2004 Study seminar in Budapest

March – June 2004 Analysis of domestic legislature, international legal documents, scientific literature and other publications on the issue, analysis of national mental health policy, compiling materials for writing the research project.
Preparing of article to be published in Lithuanian legal periodic on the analysis of domestic and international legislature regulating mental health issues.

June/July 2004  Participation in various task forces, preparing guidelines and standards for providing of social services in the community for people with mental disabilities. Meeting with important stakeholders, focusing on the issues of tuning of Lithuanian mental health and social care systems. Participation in various national and international seminars and conferences, related to the antidiscrimination and disability policies.

June – September 2004 Within the framework of research project survey on the current national mental health policy including interviews with the services users, self-advocates, non-governmental organizations, acting in the sphere of mental health, medical professionals and other specialists, policy makers, government and authority representatives.

September - November 2004 Writing of research project based on the data collected.
Preparing of both written and vocal communications to be presented at various seminars, conferences, events*.

November 2004 – January 2005 Editing and publication of brochure on research project and dissemination it to various stakeholders.

February 2005 Preparing of Policy Paper based on research project and targeting various interest groups (policy makers, government authorities, non-governmental sector, self-advocates, other stakeholders) focused on positive changes in Lithuanian mental health policy.

* Publicity and presentation of the research and its results will be of main importance and focus points during the whole program duration.
Preparation and publication of article on the analysis and research done will be of another priority.
