LECTURE 9

Local identity and regionalism

The lecture and subsequent seminar were drawing upon a research done by two of CDC project group members, concerning the role of ethnicity and religion as regional identity boundary markers. This research was conducted in Partium, a cross border region with its own historical and cultural identity which today is territorially-politically divided by the state borderline between Hungary and Romania. After the lecturer presented the theoretical-methodological context and the main findings of the research, in the ensuing discussion students, who read the text before the lecture, were able to comment on the relevance of various cultural factors in regional identity building.
