Delivered paper “Minority Protection in the EU: the Role of the Luxemburg
Court”

Finalizing methodological preparations, outlining basic structure of
field research, devising questionnaires for information sought, identifying
prospective interviewees, reporting to OSI mentors

Establishing contact with prospective interviewees by phone, fax and
email, setting appointments and agenda for prospective meetings

Attended the third IPF training seminar in Budapest.
November 3-11, 2001
Information trip to Spain, exchanging notes with the local researcher
– OSI consultant Ina Zoon, adjusting research strategy, attending interviews
with the officials and Gitano minority representatives in Madrid, Cordoba
and Barcelona.
November 13, 2001
Attending a press conference in Bratislava, devoted to the public release
of OSI reports on minority protection in the candidate states for EU accession.
November 14-29, 2001
First field trip to Germany: East Germany. Conducting interviews with
the officials, lawyers, representatives of international and German NGOs,
Roma/Sinti, and other minority activists in Berlin, Potsdam (Land Brandenburg),
and Göttingen (Land Hesse).
November 19-21, 2001
Attending a conference “Roma Projects’ ‘Good Practices’: Possibilities
and Limits” organized by the Roma National Congress in Hamburg, Germany.
December 1-11, 2001
Combined field trips to Brussels/Belgium, and second field trip to
Germany: North and West Germany. Continuing interviews with the officials,
lawyers, representatives of international and German NGOs, and Roma and
Sinti activists in Düsseldorf, Köln and Bonn (Land Nord Rhein-Westfalen)
and Hamburg, reporting to OSI mentors.
